Act II : UNDERGROUND
(in production)
“Do you feel that?
That tremor beneath the surface,
A resistance from something buried long ago.
Upside down, a mouthful of stones,
Pressure must be applied to steady the earth.”
Informed by Irish Vampiric mythologies, this work examines an existence below the surface, and how this pertains to underground culture; the spaces from which Queer resistance and Queer joy have flowed. Paying homage to Drag as a resilient political power, catalyst for gender exploration and an ecosystem in itself, this performative film offers a speculative view through vampiric metaphor of how drag has contributed to the regeneration, preservation, and futurity of both Queer communities and individuals. This is told through the visualisation and performance of an underground ecosystem of vampires, created and sustained by a green viscous liquid; a living and infectious representation of drag, inspired by the body paint utilised in my practice.
The film is visually lead by the liquidy flow onto, into, around and between the vampiric bodies, all entangled, and each in a different state of preservation, transformation, or euphoria.
The production of this work has been graciously supported by A4 Sounds, through the WOWTE programme.
